Harper Archer Middle School Language Arts Classes are divided into four Units of Study.
Unit 1 - Ever Changing Identities (First Semester)
Unit 2 - Multicultural Literature (First Semester)
Unit 3 - Defying the Odds (Second Semester)
Unit 4 - Coming of Age (Second Semester)
Each ELA Unit is grounded in recurring standards that emphasize textual evidence, academic vocabulary, effective communication and narrative writing experiences.
Each ELA unit is focused on students achieving mastery of specific focus standards. Embedded within the units are formative assessment opportunities (discussions, constructed responses, short writing tasks (Quick Writes) and writing Explanatory and Argumentative Compositions.
Classwork
Students are responsible for full completion of their assigned classwork each day. Often times, students are asked to complete their unfinished classwork for homework.
Homework
Homework is given nightly! Sometimes students will be asked to complete unfinished classwork for homework. Students should spend 10-15 minutes each night reviewing the notes or classwork from the day to help them retain what we learn in class, along with completing the assigned homework.
Tests/Quizzes
Quizzes, also known as weekly assessments are given each week, depending on the Skills Calendar for ELA. Students are informed in advance of ALL Quizzes, Assessments and Unit Tests. Students are also given Study Guides or notes to use as study tools to help them prepare for assessments.
Projects
Throughout the school year students may be assigned projects to complete for a understanding a concept and for a grade. Some assigned projects may be individual or group projects.
Parents, please check your child's agenda daily to ensure that he/she is completing any homework/classwork!
AFTER SCHOOL TUTORIAL IS HELD EACH WEDNESDAY FROM 4:30 - 5:30!
